DOCK MANAGEMENT

Regardless of how cartons are processed in the shipping system (via automated or manual means), these cartons have to be accurately loaded into their appropriate trailers. To ensure the right trailers arrive at the right dock doors to match shipping and receiving priorities as well as available labor and equipment, appointments must be properly scheduled with all carriers. To allow shipping supervisors to manage their docks to this end, ScanData supports the following:

bullet Location Manager
bullet Trailer Manager
bullet Shipment Planning Manager
bullet Material Handling Client

CONFIGURATION AND PLANNING

With Trailer Manager, shipping supervisors can systematically prepare the distribution center for the inbound and outbound trailers needed for that day by setting up virtual trailers representative of the physical trailers necessary for the day’s shipping. In addition, during trailer setup, administrators also can place controls and restrictions on valid loading levels by setting the carton count, weight, and cubing allowed during loading. Using this process, supervisors don’t have to constantly monitor the volumes of cartons being loaded to several trailers; they can let the system automatically check for them. Further, in conjunction with Location Manager (which allows virtual staging and shipping dock locations to be created and managed so they can be used in staging and loading logic), Trailer Manager can assign and un-assign trailers to doors or staging areas. Additional features of Trailer Manager include:

bullet

Monitoring transfer and divert counts

bullet

Setting dock in and out dates and times

bullet

Managing stop offs

bullet

Managing planned shipment dates

PROCESSING

More complex solutions require that some or all cartons be palletized for load management. To provide this functionality, ScanData deploys its Material Handling Client application, which is deployed as either a desktop application that works in conjunction with a mobile, hand-held processing device or as a self-contained PocketPC application. All Material Handling Client deployments give dock personnel more robust and mobile carton and pallet processing capabilities such as:

bullet

Pallet location movement

bullet

Pallet combination

bullet

Conveyor lane audit

bullet

Pallet creation

bullet

Carton- and pallet-based load verify

bullet

Pallet/conveyor lane assignment

bullet

Carton information look-up
