SCANDATA'S FULLY INTEGRATED SOLUTION
ScanData's fully integrated solution is parcel transportation
management software in the most traditional sense. This solution
includes full electronic data and operational integration into
an existing enterprise and encompasses the Traffic Management,
Data Management, Automated and Manual Processing, Dock
Management, and Manifest Management functional areas of
ScanData's componentized product.

SAMS
SHIPPING AND MANIFESTING SYSTEM
Before
any packages are processed using ScanData's SAMS product, traffic
managers (in conjunction with ScanData's training personnel) use the
Traffic
Management components to configure the system according to their
company's
specific transportation business rules. Also, warehouse
managers use the
location configuration modules of the Dock Management
component grouping to create a virtual warehouse — including sorter
divert, staging, manual processing, and loading locations. The Traffic
Management as well as location configuration components of the Dock
Management grouping are mainly used during system parameterization to
set the system up and are then only used sporadically to maintain system
configurations.
With a fully
parameterized system in place, daily processing can take place. Shipping
managers use the daily shipping configuration components of the Dock
Management grouping to set up expected trailers as well as sorter divert
assignments.
After Package Level Detail (PLD)
data is passed to ScanData via one of the mechanisms in the Data
Management - Inbound component grouping, carton processing takes place
either automatically via the Automated Processing components or manually
via the Manual Processing components.
After processing, shipping dock
personnel use the material handling modules of the Dock Management
component grouping to audit conveyor lane sorting, manage/load pallets
and cartons, and load verify trailers.
After trailers have been loaded,
shipping managers use the Manifest Management components to close out
necessary manifests (which kicks off all required carrier compliant
electronic communications and paper documentation) as well as verify the
accuracy of the manifests.
Finally, after manifesting is
complete, data is passed from ScanData to an archive and/or host system
via one of the mechanisms in the Data Management - Outbound component
grouping. If an archive exists, traffic managers can also use the
delivery confirmation and reconciliation modules of the Traffic
Management component grouping to research carrier delivery and charge
information and reconcile it against manifesting data to support carrier
billing reconciliation.
